Sodium bicarbonate is a well-established and reliable buffer that rapidly raises rumen pH. It provides valuable support in highly acidic silage-based rations by neutralising silage-derived acidity. Many producers are reluctant to give up their sodium bicarbonate programme — and rightly so. However, sodium bicarbonate has one limitation on its own: it dissolves quickly, its effect is short-lived, and rumen pH drops again during the day.

Rumibuf overcomes this limitation by combining four components.

Sodium Bicarbonate rapidly stabilises rumen pH during periods of high acid load; in acidic silage rations, it neutralises silage-derived acidity and protects the buffering capacity of Acid Buf.

Acid Buf, thanks to the microscopic honeycomb structure of Lithothamnium calcareum, dissolves gradually in rumen fluid and sustains buffering capacity for more than eight hours. When the effect of sodium bicarbonate has ended, Acid Buf is still working. During dissolution, 30% calcium and 5.5% magnesium are released, providing a highly bioavailable mineral source alongside the buffering effect.

Magnesium Oxide supports rumen pH during periods of high acid load through its strong alkalising properties and contributes to muscle and nerve function, supporting the regular motility of the rumen.

Vistacell's live Saccharomyces cerevisiae consumes harmful oxygen in the rumen ecosystem to protect the anaerobic environment, limits lactic acid accumulation by competing for sugars, and supports the growth of cellulolytic bacteria. The result: more stable rumen pH, improved fibre digestion, and more consistent milk composition.
