The microbial balance of the rumen flora is under constant stress due to high-performance rations. Saccharomyces cerevisiae-based Vistacell protects the anaerobic environment by consuming harmful oxygen in the rumen ecosystem, limiting lactic acid accumulation by competing for sugars, and supporting the growth of cellulolytic bacteria — optimising fibre digestion and milk yield while providing protection against acidosis.

The Engine of Rumen Digestion: Microbial Balance

When the microbial balance of the rumen flora is disrupted, lactic acid-producing bacteria become dominant, rumen pH drops, cellulolytic bacteria lose function, and the yield from fibre digestion quietly deteriorates.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae-based Vistacell is produced with vacuum packaging technology. As oxygen contact is eliminated, every cell retains its original viability until the package is opened. Thanks to its proprietary production technology, live yeast cells are encapsulated within a layer of dead yeast, providing Vistacell with an additional layer of protection against pelleting temperatures.

In standard-packaged live yeast products, viable cell counts drop dramatically during the pelleting process — the gap between the CFU figure on the packaging and the CFU figure reaching the rumen translates directly into lost performance. Vistacell's vacuum packaging and dead yeast encapsulation technology close this gap; every cell that reaches the rumen does so with its viability intact and ready to work.

Live Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells reaching the rumen consume harmful oxygen in the rumen ecosystem to maintain the anaerobic environment, limit lactic acid accumulation by competing for sugars, and support the growth of cellulolytic bacteria. The result: more stable rumen pH, improved fibre digestion, and a direct contribution to milk yield.

Vistacell contains 10 × 10⁹ CFU of Saccharomyces cerevisiae per gram. Produced in granule form, it can be easily mixed into TMR or concentrate feed and used directly in the pelleting process.
