It offers significantly higher bioavailability compared to lauric acid and demonstrates superior resistance to pH changes. It is rapidly absorbed from the small intestine and enters the lymphatic system.
The key property that distinguishes GML from other fatty acid sources is its amphipathic structure: capable of dissolving in both water and fat, this structure allows effective distribution across the intestinal epithelium — laying the foundation for supporting digestive system health and normal immune function.
The literature strongly supports this foundation. Kong et al. (2021, 64 citations) demonstrated that GML increased the villus height-to-crypt depth ratio in broilers, reduced IL-1β and TNF-α levels, increased IgG and mucin-2 production, and improved cecal microbiota diversity. Kong et al. (2022, 46 citations) showed that in an LPS-induced immunological stress model, GML preserved intestinal integrity, elevated IgA and IgG levels, and activated the AMPK/Nrf2 pathway. Fortuoso et al. (2019, 108 citations) demonstrated that GML produced comparable results to the antibiotic control group in terms of body weight, live weight gain, and FCR, and significantly reduced Eimeria oocyst counts. In laying hens, Wang et al. (2024) showed that GML improved egg quality, shell thickness, Haugh unit, and immune parameters.
